NFL Week 1 is in the books, and the fireworks on the field carried over into the hobby. Some players are soaring in value while others left collectors holding their breath. On the latest episode of the Up or Down show, hosted by Dappz and Ethan, the duo breaks down who’s trending in the card market and what to do about it.

And of course, be sure to watch the episode for the weekly Ludex Loot giveaway.

Buy, Sell, or Hold?

Week 1 performances always create short-term overreactions, but the question is… who’s really worth buying, and who’s a sell?

  • Daniel Jones: A monster fantasy performance against Miami pushed his 2019 Optic Downtown PSA 9 to an all-time high of $600. That same card was under $200 just months ago. Is it time to cash in?
  • Justin Fields: A top-3 fantasy QB in Week 1. His Select XRP PSA 10 doubled to $300 almost overnight. Can he sustain it?
  • Bo Nix: Rough outing with 3 turnovers. His Prizm base PSA 10 has been cut in half since September 1. Are collectors losing confidence? Nix’s rookie cards are also featured in sets like 2024 Panini One Football, making his early-season struggles especially relevant to hobbyists who bought in on the hype.
  • CJ Stroud: A quiet day against the Rams — and a reminder of how fast hype can fade. His Prizm Silver PSA 10 rookie has dropped from $1,000 to under $400.

Beyond the Box Score

The guys don’t stop at single players. They ask bigger questions too:

  • Should Dolphins investors be nervous? If things don’t turn around, could we see Tyreek Hill back in Kansas City?
  • Are the Lions still contenders, or has the hype train slowed? Jared Goff’s 3–17–1 record without Ben Johnson or Sean McVay calling plays is hard to ignore.

The Market is Still Booming

One of the most interesting conversations this week? The state of the hobby itself.

Over $416 million in sports and trading card sales in August, setting a record for the third straight month. Even mainstream investors like Kevin O’Leary are purchasing sports cards as a legitimate asset class. Is this just a bubble, or the next evolution of collecting?
