Topps Finest Football is back, and this time it’s fully licensed. After a decade-long absence, collectors are finally getting a proper, NFL-licensed Finest set for the first time since 2015. The 2024 edition was unlicensed, which meant no team logos. This one is fully licensed, and includes a rookie class headlined by Cam Ward, Ashton Jeanty, and Jaxson Dart. The hobby’s initial reactions to the preview images has been astounding. We’ve gone too long without a licensed Topps Finest Football set.
Without further ado, here’s your crash course to one of the most iconic sets Topps offers every year, but this time for the NFL.
What Is 2025 Topps Finest Football?
Finest Football debuted in 1992 as a premium chromium brand built around refractor technology. It redefined what a trading card could look like, and it immediately became a must-rip at every price point. The NFL version ran strong through the ’90s and into the 2000s before Panini’s exclusive licensing deal killed it off after 2015.
With Fanatics/Topps now holding the NFL license, Finest is back in full force. The 2025 set leans hard into the nostalgia angle while still building for the modern collector, featuring 300 base cards across three tiers (Common, Uncommon, and Rare), each with its own distinct design and refractor rainbow.
No official box configuration or release date has been announced yet, but presales are expected via EQL raffle through Topps.
Rookies: The Headliners of Any Release
The 2025 NFL rookie class is one of the deepest in years across both offense and defense.
Cam Ward (QB, Titans) went first overall and is the headliner. Ashton Jeanty (RB, Raiders) and Colston Loveland (TE, Bears) were arguably the two best offensive rookies in the class, with Loveland ranking among the top tight ends in the entire league by midseason. Emeka Egbuka (WR, Buccaneers) was the top OROY candidate at midseason and Tyler Warren (TE, Colts) was right behind him. Jaxson Dart (QB, Giants) finished as the top-performing QB from the class. Cam Skattebo (RB, Giants), Omarion Hampton (RB, Chargers), RJ Harvey (RB, Broncos), and Pat Bryant (WR, Broncos) all made immediate contributions as first-year players.
On defense, Abdul Carter (DE, Giants), Jahdae Barron (CB, Broncos), and Mason Graham (DT, Browns) headlined a strong class that held its own from week one.
Parallels: The Refractor Rainbow You Chase
The base set runs three tiers (Common, Uncommon, Rare), each with its own design and refractor rainbow. The product previews show an orange colorway Myles Garrett, and a black/teal design on the Patrick Mahomes, with Mahomes numbered /20 and Garrett /15.
Autographs: What to Chase
Rookie Finest Autographs
The main rookie auto program, featuring a neon rainbow triangular background design. Parallels that we know of right now include the base version as well as Blue /99.
Finest Freshman Autographs
A second rookie auto program using a retro design pulled directly from 1996 Finest, the first-ever tiered Finest set. Parallels as of now include Blue /99 and Black /10.
Finest Moments Autographs
Back for the first time since 2013, these cards capture a specific career highlight on the card front alongside the signature.
Flashback Autographs
Built on the 2006 Finest design, with Orange /25 and a Superfractor 1/1. Jaxson Dart’s Superfractor comes with an awesome “Big Blue” inscription.
Finest Greats Autographs
Legends only. With this example being the Gold /50, with a swirling chromium design that looks unlike anything else in the set.
Inserts to Chase
Inserts have always been at the heart of what makes Finest special. Fan-favorite Centurions returns, and 1992 Finest Throwbacks pay homage to the very first Finest design ever printed. On the short print side, chase The Man, Headliners, and Nightmare Fuel as the SSP pulls of the product. And for the ultra-rare hunters, the Landmark Metal Series is a modern take on the beloved 1995 insert, printed on real metal.
Can’t Wait? Rip Football Cards Live Right Now
2025 Topps Finest Football is the comeback story the hobby has been waiting for. A fully licensed set with a deep rookie class, throwback inserts, and the signature chromium refractor shine that made the brand iconic in the ’90s. Whether you’re a box breaker, a PC collector, or someone who just wants to own a piece of this loaded rookie class, there’s something in this release for you.
Photograph Your Finest Pulls Like a Pro
Refractors are only as good as how you photograph them. The chromium surfaces, rainbow parallels, and foil signatures in Finest are some of the hardest cards to capture well with a phone camera. The Ludex Light Box is built specifically for cards like these, giving you consistent, glare-free lighting that lets the refractor do its thing. Whether you’re posting a hit on social media, listing it on eBay, or just building out your Ludex collection, your Finest cards deserve to be seen the right way.
