For the first time since 2015, Topps is releasing a full flagship football set. 2026 Topps Flagship Football marks the brand’s return to the category’s traditional base design after Panini held exclusive football card rights from 2015 through the 2025 season. The checklist runs across the 2026 rookie class and established veterans, with hobby boxes expected to include one autograph or relic card each. A Topps.com pre-order date is set for July 24, 2026, with a release date of August 21, 2026.

Background

Topps last released a flagship football set in 2015, the year before Panini took over exclusive manufacturing rights for licensed NFL cards. Topps reacquired its NFL license and has since released brands like Chrome, Finest, and Signature Class, but 2026 marks the return of the base flagship product. The base design borrows from the 2026 Topps Baseball set, with a jersey-textured left border and team-colored stitching separating the photo from the frame.

Topps Football traces back to 1956, and this release leans on that history throughout the checklist. 1991 Topps inserts mark the 35th anniversary of the first year Topps used a shared design across its baseball and football sets, while 1957 Rookie Variations put the current rookie class on the second-year Topps Football design, the same set that included Hall of Famers Johnny Unitas and Bart Starr as rookies. The base checklist also runs alongside veteran and legend content covering players like Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, Tom Brady, and Peyton Manning.

Hobby Box

Each hobby box carries 20 packs of 12 cards, with one autograph or memorabilia card guaranteed per box. Collectors can expect Base Variations, Golden Mirror short prints, True Photo Variations, and a full lineup of inserts including Touchdown and Billboard Materials.

1991 Topps Autographs

This insert brings back the design Topps shared across its baseball and football releases three and a half decades ago, now paired with an on-card autograph. A full parallel run is expected, including a numbered Platinum version. The Ty Simpson card below is an example of that Platinum parallel, numbered to 1/1.

1991 Topps Relics

This insert pairs the 1991 Topps design with a player-worn memorabilia swatch, with a run of parallels across the checklist. The Jeremiyah Love card below shows the Platinum parallel, numbered to 1/1, while the Caleb Williams card shows the Red parallel.

Golden Mirror Variations

Golden Mirror Variations cover the entire base checklist as short prints. They’re built around a gold-foil Topps logo, a gold flip side, and a different photo than the player’s standard base card. Fernando Mendoza is shown below as an example of the look.

True Photo Variations

True Photo Variations strip the card down to the player photo and name, without the usual base card framing. The Jahmyr Gibbs card pictured is numbered out of 10.

Rookie Card Team Color Border Variations

This variation puts a two-color border around the base design, with a team logo running down one side and a matching color filling out the rest of the frame. Caleb Downs is featured below as an example.

Real One Autographs

Real One Autographs add an on-card signature to the base design, with a full rainbow of parallels expected. The Drake Maye card shown below is a yellow Foilfractor version.

Flagship First Signatures

Flagship First Signatures give collectors an on-card autograph from the first cards of the 2026 rookie class, with Flagship First Dual Signatures also on the checklist. Eli Stowers is pictured below as an example of the single-signature version.
